We cannot ignore the mind when it comes to the soul. In fact God provided us with these components of the mind to enable us to communicate with and love Him and to communicate with and love others.
"As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 23:7).
Regardless of being born again in the spirit, we still have to overcome our carnal mind.
Banishing error thinking and negative core beliefs are important to heal then maintain a healed mind. So is renewing the mind with the word of God. Both moving away from the darkness and moving towards the light, will repair and regenerate. Lack of discipline in the process of mind renewal cannot be cast out because you cannot cast out the flesh.
"We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." (2 Corinthians 10:5)
In sanctification the Holy Spirit brings us daily to new life in Him as we release our old way of life. It is the sanctification process which gradually transforms us into the new creation we are since we are born with a new spirit but still need to overcome the carnal mind part of our soul.
Romans 8:7 is a foundational scripture that tells us about the carnal mind:
“Because the carnal mind is enmity against God” In other words, the ordinary mind of a human being is inherently at odds with its Creator. Knowingly or unknowingly, it opposes—even resents Him “for it is not subject to the law of God” The carnal mind resists Gods law and God being in charge as the ultimate authority. The carnal mind needs to be overcome so it is aligned with the born again spirit.
Mental and thinking structures of the carnal mind are often based on:
These mental and thinking structures are stumbling blocks in our walk with God and in life generally, and therefore need to be overcome. The Word of God shows us our identity and what the truth is contrary to the lies which the devil is the father of.
"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things." (Phillipians 4:8).
Through the help of the Holy Spirit and acceptance of biblical truths we can overcome the carnal mind.
